Hey everyone, DennisCW here! I've had my Tesla Model Y Performance for about a month now and put nearly 1,000 miles on it. Overall, I love this car—it's a beast! But no vehicle is perfect, and "hate" is a strong word. Today, I'm sharing the five things I don't like about the Model Y Performance. These are honest observations, especially since the Performance trim comes with some trade-offs. Let's dive in.
One of my biggest gripes is the windshield area. It never really gets clean. I just wiped it down today, and you can still see streaks—the wipers just aren't cutting it. Rain, bugs, or road grime build up fast up top.
I'm considering a ceramic coating on the windshield (maybe the whole car soon), but I'm not fully sold on it yet. If you're detail-oriented like me, this might drive you nuts too. Tesla, can we get better wiper coverage?
The new Model Y (Juniper refresh) is super comfortable in general, but the Performance model's suspension is stiffer for that razor-sharp handling. It's noticeably rougher than a standard Model Y Premium.
I knew this going in—it's the price of those insane acceleration and cornering stats—but it's something to flag if comfort is your priority. Bumps feel more jarring, especially on imperfect roads.
Maybe I'm spoiled by my Cybertruck, but the Model Y feels tighter than expected for an SUV. With seats folded down, I still hit space limits quickly. Families with even one or two kids will feel it—cargo doesn't always fit neatly.
The trunk lip is a pain too: anything sticking out even a bit prevents it from closing. Tetris-level packing required!
These seats look amazing, feel premium, and hug you nicely. But I've spent weeks tweaking my position and still can't nail the "perfect" setup. Is it the front bolsters? My body type? Something feels off.
If you're a Model Y owner struggling with this, drop a comment—let's troubleshoot together!
A classic Tesla complaint: the rear window is comically small. I barely glance at it anymore—it's basically useless with passengers or cargo blocking the view. The backup camera is my go-to now.
It's a design quirk, but in tight spots, it makes you rely 100% on tech.
Despite these quirks, the Model Y Performance is still a game-changer—0-60 in seconds, Autopilot magic, and that minimalist interior. These are just the realities of owning one, especially after real-world miles.
