Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Cybertruck owner or thinking about snagging one, buckle up because today's post dives into a frustrating issue plaguing multiple vehicles: power conversion system failures during Level 2 home charging. We've seen this pop up across the Cybertruck community, and while it's not a full-blown safety crisis (yet), it's bad enough that Tesla should issue a recall. Let's break it down.
The issue strikes when owners plug into a Tesla Wall Connector or similar Level 2 charger at home. Suddenly, charging halts with errors like "power connector fault" or "AC charging error." Our second Cybertruck hasn't hit this snag—probably because we've been supercharging exclusively—but it's rampant out there.
Take Kyle's 2024 All-Wheel Drive Cybertruck: He plugged into his Tesla Wall Connector, and boom—charging stopped dead. Tesla Service confirmed it's a power conversion system fault, but the replacement part is backordered until May. That's over a month of downtime for home charging! He can still drive and supercharge, but who wants to trek to a station every time?
This isn't isolated. Forums and owner reports are lighting up with the same story. Supercharging works fine, but home setups? Total no-go.
Shoutout to Gary for nailing the reason: It's not deemed a safety issue. Per NHTSA rules, recalls require a danger to drivers or others. Here, components fail, but no immediate risk—you can still drive and supercharge. Tesla might opt for a voluntary service campaign instead, keeping regulators at bay.
That said, if you're relying on home charging (like most should), this cripples daily usability. Not exactly the "revolutionary" experience promised!
