Elon's Major HW4 Update: AI4 Enough for Safer-Than-Human FSD – No HW5 Needed?
Hey Tesla fam, DennisCW here! If you're a Hardware 4 (HW4) owner, Elon Musk just dropped one of the strongest updates yet that could put all your FSD worries to rest. Is this the reassurance we've been waiting for? Let's break it down.
The Game-Changing Elon Post
Elon recently shared this bombshell on X (formerly Twitter):
"Optimus and our supercluster supercomputer clusters need AI5. AI4 is enough to achieve much better than human safety for full self-driving."
He even backed it up with quotes from Sawyer Merritt. This is huge for current HW4 Tesla owners. It suggests your vehicle might not need an HW5 upgrade to reach unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD). Imagine driving with safety levels better than human drivers – all on the hardware you already have!

HW3 vs. HW4: Earnings Call Buzz
With Tesla's next earnings call just around the corner (next week-ish), top questions are pouring in. One standout:
"How will Hardware 3 cars reach unsupervised full self-driving?"
HW3, HW4, AI3, AI4 – these topics are front and center. Elon loves the "next year" vibe, and with updates like 14.x or even 15 on the horizon, things are only getting better. Stay tuned – we'll likely get some clarity (or at least more teases!).
AI5: Powerful, But Not for Your Car?
Elon also clarified:
"A single AI5 has five times the useful compute of a dual SOC AI4."
Nick Reyes echoed the positivity:
"Tesla's new AI5 chips are for Optimus and supercomputer clusters. AI4 is enough... for full self-driving."
Bottom line? AI5 is beast-mode for robots and data centers, but AI4 has your car covered. What do you think – relieved or still eyeing that upgrade?
Must-Have Tesla Accessories to Level Up Your Ride
While we wait for FSD magic, let's talk upgrades you can get today. Congrats on your Tesla (or the one you're about to buy)! Accessories are the second-most exciting part. My top three buckets:

- All-Weather Floor Mats – My #1 rec for protection.
- Center Consoles – Tesla skips these, so you shouldn't.
I swear by Jowua for phone mounts, organizers, and center consoles. Use promo code Dennis5 for 5% off, free shipping (over a certain amount), and free returns. Check Jowua here.
