Apple just confirmed the iPhone Duo screen cracking problem is real after weeks of user reports. The company stated it is aware of issues affecting the internal screen in a small number of iPhone Duo units and directed customers to contact Apple Care for replacements.
This announcement comes after widespread complaints that quickly earned the nickname iPhone Duo crackgate. Multiple owners shared photos of brand-new $2,000 devices developing visible lines within hours of normal use. Mark Gurman first highlighted the pattern, and now Apple has offered an official line without providing specific guidance to stores or support teams yet.
Background on the Apple iPhone Duo issues
Early iPhone Duo durability test videos show the first signs of wear appearing around 75,000 folds. That number equals roughly 41 folds per day over five years. While most people upgrade phones before hitting that mark, the failures are showing up much sooner on some units. One test placed the device on a table and the telltale line appeared almost immediately.
What this means for owners
The real question is replacement speed. Current wait times for new iPhone Duo units stretch into January or February, so even approved Apple Care iPhone Duo replacement requests could face delays. Some buyers are turning to carrier deals at T-Mobile and Visible to secure devices faster.
For anyone considering the phone, grabbing Apple Care remains the smartest move. The standard one-year warranty offers basic coverage, but extended protection makes sense given the early reports.

Bottom line
Apple's response confirms the problem but leaves replacement logistics unclear. Until more units ship and data improves, Apple Care looks essential for early adopters. The situation will stay worth monitoring as more iPhone Duo durability test results surface.
