Is 0% Financing Coming Soon for the Model Y Performance? Here's My Prediction
I get this question all the time: "Dennis, when is 0% financing dropping for the Model Y Performance? Or at least 0.99%?" It's a hot topic right now because the standard Model Y is sitting pretty at 0% financing, and select versions like the Premium AWD and RWD are at 0.99%. But the Performance trim? Crickets.
Today, I'm diving into why that's the case, looking at historical data, and giving you my honest prediction on what's coming next for the Model Y Performance.
Why Is the Model Y Performance Excluded?
Captain Carlos nailed it in a recent post: It's all about supply and demand. Tesla only started delivering the refreshed Model Y Performance last December. Demand is still sky-high, and they're playing catch-up:
- Orders are backed up with deliveries stretching into March, April, and even May.
- Even in Canada (different factory), the story's the same.
Why incentivize a hot product that's selling out? Tesla doesn't need to—they're moving units without it.
Historical Precedents: What Happened with the "Old" Model Y?
Let's rewind to 2024 offers on the legacy Model Y (now 2+ years old):
- 0% financing for up to 60 months (included Performance).
- 0.99% for up to 72 months.
That was for a vehicle 3-4 years into its lifecycle. The current Model Y Performance is brand new by comparison, so expect patience.
My Prediction for Model Y Performance Financing
Here's what I see happening:
- This year? No 0% anytime soon. At best, 1.99% or 2.99% in Q3 or Q4—if production ramps up big time.
- 0% financing? Probably 2-3 years down the line, just like the old Model Y.
Right now, the Premium AWD is at 0.99%, so the Performance might trail a bit behind as Tesla prioritizes volume trims.
