Tesla just slipped a Model Y refresh acceleration boost into new builds without charging a dime.
On October 1, the Model Y Premium All-Wheel Drive dropped from 4.6 seconds to Tesla Model Y 4.3 0-60. This is hardware only. Older cars stay at 4.6. New builds get a Model Y new front motor rated at 167 kW instead of 142 kW.
The free acceleration boost Model Y owners didn't expect
That same 4.3-second time used to cost $2,000 as the Acceleration Boost upgrade. Now it arrives standard on every new Premium AWD Model Y. The 2027 Model Y refresh is already rolling out of the factory even though Tesla never announced a full Juniper update yet.
What this means for buyers right now
If you were considering the paid boost or jumping straight to Performance, the math just changed. The non-Performance car now matches the old boosted time and still qualifies for 1.99% financing. That financing difference alone can save thousands versus a Performance model at 3.99%.
Owners who ordered before October 1 should check their build date with Tesla. Anything built after the first of the month should carry the faster motor.

Should you still wait?
Some buyers are nervous about pulling the trigger. Recent owner complaints about quality and timing are worth reviewing: https://denniscw.com/blog/dont-buy-tesla-model-y-now-owner-complaints
That said, the free acceleration boost Model Y effectively adds $2,000 of value overnight. At 1.99% financing the deal feels even stronger.

Bottom line
New Model Y Premium AWD builds are simply quicker than they were two weeks ago. No software unlock needed. If you're in the market, this refresh quietly makes the standard car more compelling than before.
