Tesla Buyer Beware: Tax Credit Issues and Must-Have Accessories
Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're in the market for a brand-new Tesla, I've got some important info that could save you a bundle. In this post, based on my latest video, I'll break down a recent development with Tesla's federal tax credit eligibility, plus share some essential accessories to enhance your Tesla ownership experience. Let's dive in!
The Tax Credit Trap: What You Need to Know
Picture this: You're browsing Tesla's inventory, excited about snagging that $7,500 federal tax credit. But hold up—some vehicles being produced right now don't qualify! This issue popped up recently, and it's something every potential buyer should be aware of, especially if you're paying cash or financing.
Why Is This Happening?
The key factor is battery sourcing. Certain models, like some Model 3 rear-wheel-drive variants, use LFP batteries from China. Under the rules of the federal tax credit (part of the Inflation Reduction Act), batteries from specific foreign entities of concern don't make the cut. This means no $7,500 rebate for those vehicles.
If you're leasing, though, you're in the clear—all Tesla leases qualify for the credit, regardless of the battery source. Tesla handles the rebate on their end.
How to Avoid the Pitfall
When shopping on Tesla's website:
- Look for the "Include Federal Tax Credit" button.
- Toggle it on to filter out non-qualifying vehicles.
This simple step ensures you're only seeing options that could save you big. It's a public service announcement (PSA) from me to you—don't get caught off guard!
And if you're ready to pull the trigger on a Tesla purchase, remember to use a referral code. Mine is linked below— it'll get you three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) for free. If you're already opting for FSD, using my code supports the channel. Thanks to everyone who's used it so far!
