Tesla FSD Navigation Gone Wonky: Safer Routes or Just Annoying Detours?
Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been following my Tesla adventures on YouTube, you know I'm all about those Full Self-Driving (FSD) updates. But lately, something weird has been happening with the navigation, and I had to hop on camera to vent about it. I just shared my raw experience in a quick video, and now I'm breaking it down for the blog.
The Issue: Navigation Taking the Long Way Around
I don't know what's up with these recent FSD and navigation updates, but they're making my Tesla act like it's sightseeing instead of driving efficiently. We're talking super wonky routes:
- Going all the way around intersections instead of straight through.
- Randomly choosing left or right turns that add unnecessary distance.
- In big cities, this compounds quickly—those extra 5-10 minutes per trip start to add up!
This was happening yesterday before I downloaded the newest update. Fingers crossed it fixes things, but I wanted to know: Have you experienced the same?
Is This for Safety or Robotaxi Prep?
Here's my theory: Tesla might be tweaking the nav to prioritize safety and consistency, especially with robotaxi dreams on the horizon. Think about it:
- Safer driving: Avoiding risky maneuvers at intersections.
- Robotaxi readiness: Uniform behavior across the fleet—no erratic shortcuts.
Sure, getting there safely while chilling in the passenger seat beats stressing over every turn. But in dense urban areas, those detours eat into your day. Is the trade-off worth it? Getting there relaxed > getting there fast? I'd say it depends on your schedule!
The Bright Side: Constant Updates Fix Everything
Leave it to Tesla—no other carmaker pushes updates this frequently. What annoys you today could be polished tomorrow. I've seen FSD evolve dramatically, and this glitch feels temporary.
