Tesla just confirmed that the Tesla FSD v15 update will target two of the biggest pain points for owners: potholes and navigation.
My car already dodges more potholes than it used to, yet it still slams into a few hard enough to kick FSD out of operation. The new FSD v15 pothole avoidance should finally make that a rare event instead of an occasional jolt.
Navigation is the bigger issue. Poor routing is the main reason FSD only covers 77 percent of a typical drive instead of 95 percent. The system picks wild turns and refuses to learn from repeated routes, forcing me to end trips just to drive straight. Tesla FSD navigation fixes in v15 should close that gap.
What the update actually includes
Tesla engineer Phil confirmed improvements are coming for both areas. Past promises on pothole detection are finally materializing alongside better map learning and route selection. These Tesla FSD 15 features matter because they attack the exact frustrations that keep my personal rating at 8.5 instead of 9.5.
AI5 memory upgrade details
Elon also revealed the AI5 hardware will ship with 96 GB of memory instead of the bare minimum. The AI5 memory upgrade prevents Tesla from being the only company skimping on RAM for the LP5 platform and should give the new stack more headroom for real-time decisions.
What this means for Tesla owners
If the pothole and navigation improvements land as expected, daily FSD use becomes far less stressful. I plan to test the update the moment it rolls out and share real-world results on the channel.
For anyone still on the fence about buying FSD, the Tesla referral — 3 months free FSD + low APR financing is worth checking before the next price change.
More details on the expected rollout are in my earlier post covering similar improvements.
Bottom line: the Tesla FSD v15 update looks like the first version that could genuinely feel complete rather than promising.
