What the transcript actually revealed
Current Model Y variants already run hardware 4 with or without bumper cameras. The Model Y Performance briefly showed a 4.5 sticker suggesting three chips instead of two, only for Tesla to walk it back. Meanwhile, robotaxis in Austin carry side repeater sprayers, and winter-tested Cybercab units feature cleaning systems on every camera including B-pillars.
These piecemeal changes prove there's no single Tesla hardware 4.5 release date. Each update targets specific pain points like keeping lenses clear for unsupervised FSD in bad weather.
Why timing a purchase never works
I've owned multiple Teslas and the pattern is always the same. The moment you wait for the next revision, another one appears. HW5 FSD update rumors only add to the noise without delivering a finished product you can order today.
If the deal on a current Model Y or Model 3 looks strong, buying now makes more sense than gambling on undefined future specs. Many owners simply trade up later when the improvements justify it.
