Tesla Model 3 V2L is finally arriving, but only on 2027 models in China, Australia and New Zealand. The feature lets owners power tools, heaters and microwaves through a Tesla V2L adapter rather than running an entire home.
What the Tesla 2027 V2L feature actually delivers
This is the same capability already rolling out on certain Model Y Performance and Model Y L variants. It uses the Tesla V2L adapter to turn the car’s battery into a portable power station. The output is meant for camping gear and job-site equipment, not whole-house backup.
Why current Tesla owners get left out
Existing Model 3 and Model Y cars cannot be upgraded. Tesla is not adding the Tesla power outlet hardware through a software update or retrofit program. That means anyone buying a 2025 or 2026 vehicle will have to wait for the next refresh if they want Model Y vehicle to load capability.
Built-in outlets versus the adapter route
Rivian and Cybertruck already ship with 110-volt outlets inside the vehicle. The Tesla approach requires buying and carrying a separate Tesla V2L adapter. I would rather see the outlet integrated from the factory so owners do not need another bulky accessory in the frunk.
What it means for Tesla owners planning trips
For weekend camping or remote work, the Tesla Model 3 V2L feature still opens useful options once it arrives. Pairing it with a Powerwall later could expand the setup, though the initial rollout stays limited to three markets.

Bottom line: the Tesla 2027 V2L feature is a step forward, but the adapter requirement and delayed availability leave room for improvement.
