Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Tesla just shared some brand-new battery tips for the Model Y, pulled directly from the owner's manual. If you're about to pick up your Tesla or already own one, these are must-know pointers to help extend your battery's lifespan. Big shoutout to Nick for posting this gem—it's gold for all us Tesla owners.
The first tip? Stick to Level 1 or Level 2 charging like a Tesla Wall Connector as your go-to method. Superchargers are great for road trips, but they're not ideal for daily use.
I swear by the official Tesla Wall Connector—I've tried other brands, and they just don't compare, especially now that everything's shifting to the Tesla port. Forget the J1772 adapters; this is the way to go.
Looking for a deal? DM me, and I can hook you up with one for $400 shipped (regularly $450). If you're in Los Angeles or Southern California, hit up our friends at Smart Plug EV. Mario, the owner, is a Tesla-authorized installer who's a pro at snagging incentives and rebates for your install. Check the link in the description below!
Set your daily charge limit to 80% or above. Reserve that full 100% for those long hauls ahead. We've been preaching this for ages, and Tesla confirms it.
Charge more frequently. Don't let the battery drop too low—waiting until it's bone-dry puts extra strain on it over time. Top it up regularly!
Avoid parking at 100% for extended periods. It can wear on the battery.
Planning to store your Model Y for a while? Keep the battery at about 50% charge and plugged in whenever possible. Tesla even posted this on their website—super helpful info we get asked about all the time.
Want to check your battery's status? Head to the Tesla service menu (easy to unlock) and run the battery test. Heads up: it takes about a day to complete. Let us know your results in the comments!
While we're on maintenance, protect your interior with a killer set of all-weather floor mats from 3W. They come with a lifetime warranty, and using promo code DENNIS35 gets you 35% off. Link below—don't sleep on this!
