Tesla Model Y Deliveries Delayed: What It Means for the $7,500 Tax Credit and How to Avoid It
Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Welcome back to the blog. If you're a fan of my YouTube channel, you know I love diving into all things Tesla and EVs. Today, I'm breaking down the latest from one of my recent videos, where we covered Model Y delivery delays, the looming end of the $7,500 federal tax credit at point of sale, and a bunch of other exciting updates. Let's get into it!
Model Y Deliveries Pushed to October: A Scary Sight for Buyers
If you're waiting on a Tesla Model Y, you might have logged into your app and seen something like this: an estimated delivery date sliding into October 1st through 10th. Ouch! This is the first confirmation I've seen of deliveries pushing past September, and it's raising eyebrows because September 30th is the deadline for the $7,500 federal tax credit at point of sale.
The IRS has provided some guidance, but Tesla hasn't released official details yet. If your delivery gets delayed, you could miss out on that instant discount. Shoutout to Rick for sharing his screenshot – it's a nerve-wracking moment, but there are ways to fight back.
What Can You Do to Speed Things Up?
- Check Tesla Inventory: Skip the custom order page to avoid anxiety. Head straight to the inventory section and filter for "all deliverable" vehicles in your zip code. You might snag something ready now.
- Visit a Local Tesla Store: Talk to a sales associate about demo vehicles or incoming inventory. Even if it's a demo with 1,500-2,000 miles, that could mean securing the tax credit – worth way more than a small mileage hit (think $7,500+ savings).
- Be Flexible: Message Tesla via the app about color, interior, or wheel options. If you're open, they might match you with a VIN ASAP.
Pro tip: Use a Tesla referral code (like mine in the description) for three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability. It supports the channel too!

Navigating the $7,500 Tax Credit Post-September
With the point-of-sale credit potentially ending, you might need to claim it on your 2025 taxes (filed in 2026). But do you qualify for the full amount? It's based on your federal tax liability.
Use a tool like SmartAsset's Income Tax Calculator to estimate:
- Input your income (e.g., $75,000 shows ~$8,454 in federal taxes).
- If your liability is $7,500 or more, you'll get the full credit as a refund.
- If less (e.g., $50,000 income shows ~$4,000), that's your max.
This is for W-2 earners – consult a tax pro if needed. Speculation: Post-September, a binding agreement with deposit might still qualify you, just not at purchase.
Essential Tesla Accessories: Don't Leave Home Without Them
Your new Tesla comes with zero accessories – not even a phone mount! Here are my must-haves from partner Joa:
- Phone mount for those quick accelerations.
- Center console organizer to keep things tidy.
- Under-screen storage for sunglasses.
Plus, fun extras like a wireless game controller, portable air compressor, or electric scooter. Use my promo code for savings and free shipping over $120. Links below!

Model 3 Performance Prices Are Crashing – Deals Alert!
Spotted a 2024 Model 3 Performance traded in for just $32,000 with 48,000 miles. It's still under warranty, and nationally, these are dipping into the mid-30s. Would you snag one? Used EV values might drop post-tax credit, so hold off if buying used.
Model Y Performance Deliveries Kick Off
First photos of the refreshed Model Y Performance are out – ultra red with new bumpers, wheels, and calipers. Deliveries have started internationally; U.S. soon? Fingers crossed for this month.
In China, the Model Y Long Range is being seen as a "larger four-seater" with folded third-row for more trunk space – smart for everyday use.
