Transforming My Tesla Model Y Performance: Unplugged Performance Full Stance Kit Install & Test Drive
Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Today, I took my Tesla Model Y Performance to Unplugged Performance for a full performance kit upgrade. The goal? Ditch that factory-high SUV stance, close those massive wheel gaps, and give it an aggressive, flush look without sacrificing too much ride quality. We're talking lowering springs, wheel spacers, camber arms, and a precision alignment. Stick around as I walk you through the install, before-and-after transformation, and my first drive impressions.
The Problem with Stock Model Y Performance Stance
Out of the box, the Model Y Performance sits way too high for my taste. That big gap between the wheel wells and tires screams "tall SUV," not "performance beast." It looks floaty and lacks the planted aggression you want from a high-performance EV. Plus, the stock suspension can feel bouncy on twisty roads or at the track.
Enter Unplugged Performance's kit:
- Moderate Lowering Springs: ~0.75-inch drop for a perfect stance.
- Wheel Spacers: 15mm front, 20mm rear to flush the wheels with the fenders.
- Camber Arms: Corrects the negative camber from lowering to prevent uneven tire wear.
This combo is a game-changer, and you don't even need to lower to add spacers!
Behind-the-Scenes at Unplugged Performance
Unplugged Performance is the spot for Tesla upgrades. They have a killer waiting lounge with snacks, drinks, comfy couches, and Wi-Fi—perfect while your car's in the shop.
We rolled the Model Y in, and the team got to work:
- Heating and swapping the springs (dual-rate linear springs for balanced comfort and performance).
- Installing the spacers for that flush fit.
- Adding camber arms to keep everything level.
- Topping it off with their advanced alignment to optimize tire wear and handling.
The full kit comes with everything needed. Check out the products here (links in video description too).
Stock vs. Upgraded: Massive gap gone, wheels flush front and rear.
Before vs. After: The Stance Transformation
| Aspect | Before (Stock) | After (Unplugged Kit) |
|---|---|---|
| Front Gap | Huge, SUV-like | Minimal, aggressive |
| Wheel Flush | Tucked in | Perfectly flush with fenders |
| Rear Angle | Tilted after lowering | Straightened by camber arms |
| Overall Look | Floaty and high | Planted performance stance |
It's not slammed—it's moderate perfection. Ideal for daily driving with track potential.
First Drive Impressions: Firmer, Planted, and Fun
Hit the road, and wow—this thing feels transformed:
- Suspension is firmer, reducing body roll and that stock bounciness.
- Highway on-ramps? Planted like glue. No sloshing around corners.
- Acceleration and turns feel precise and confident.
- Still comfy for daily use (thanks to the moderate drop and dual-rate springs). No harsh ride over bumps.
I was worried about comfort, but it's the best of both worlds. Stock felt too floaty; this is ready for Tesla Corsa at Buttonwillow (Feb 28th—use promo code Dennis to sign up!).
"This feels way better than stock. More planted, less sloppy. Perfect for track days without killing daily comfort."
Why You Need This Upgrade
If your Model Y Performance looks too vanilla or handles too softly, this kit takes it to the next level. Prevents tire wear, improves looks and dynamics. Highly recommend the alignment too—even without mods.
