Surprise update from Rivian that's got everyone talking! They've quietly discontinued their most affordable options: the $72,000 R1T Dual Standard truck and the $76,000 Dual R1S SUV. This means the new starting prices for the R1 lineup are now $80,000 for the R1T and $84,000 for the R1S.
These changes couldn't come at a more intriguing time – just days ahead of the official launch and pricing reveal for the Rivian R2, their most inexpensive SUV yet.
Before this, you could snag an R1T for around $72-73K. By pulling these entry-level configs, Rivian is creating a clearer gap in their lineup. But is this strategic positioning for the R2?
Many in the EV community think so. Analysts like Saria and Makis are speculating that the R2 could land at $64,999 or $65,000. We've all been hoping for something in the $58-59K range to compete directly with Tesla's Model Y, but with the massive hype around the R2, Rivian might push it to $65K or even $67K to maximize early sales.
"I have a feeling that the R2 announced on Thursday will be $64,999 or $65,000." – Makis
This pricing strategy would give Rivian breathing room between their premium R1 flagships and the more accessible R2.
The big question: If the Rivian R2 debuts in the mid-to-high $60Ks, are you jumping in, or holding out for a Model Y? We all know deals on Tesla vehicles get sweeter the longer you wait.
